Many regarded Phillip Greer as the poorest veteran attorney of California, known for representing Orange County Republicans with many difficulties. The list of Greer’s embattled clients included Congressperson Ed Royce, State Assemblyperson Janet Nguyen, and Orange County Board of Supervisor member Shawn Nelson.
Attorney Greer lived for years in a costly Newport Coast residence near the Pacific Ocean. However, after he lost a professional negligence case verdict in 2017, he claimed under oath that he had no vehicles, property, valuable collectibles, furniture, china, and appliances.
The attorney became a State Bar of California member 40 years ago. In 2018, he asserted that he did not possess any savings, investments or cash and was allegedly getting by on a meager $1,052 per month.
However, former treasurer cum tax collector of Orange County Chriss Street was not one to believe Greer. Street won the verdict against the lawyer for misrepresentation and fraud following an intense jury trial.
In Ronald Reagan Federal Courthouse filings, Street said that his former attorney was unlawfully expecting to dodge debt after he transferred title to the costly house to his spouse Arlene. For your information, Arlene Greer worked as a Newport Beach Arts Commission member.
The couple bought the residence in 1994, as per real estate property records. As of May 10, 2018, the lawyer had not yet reacted to the accusation of Streets in court that the latter was a malicious and wrongful conduct victim. Greer competed to be a Newport Beach councilor in 2016 but to no avail.
